You’ll be able to access the meeting on a computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone. Please join the meeting by 1:20 PM so we can begin the meeting at 1:30 PM.

With the events that have taken place over the past month, this meeting will focus on racial injustice and how we can all stand up for racial equity.

Our agenda will include the following:

1) Small group discussions about participating in a movement for black lives and consequences of maintaining white privilege.

2) Presentations from two guest speakers and Q&A. We’re excited to have Samina Hussain and Jill Manrique who will share their experiences dealing with diversity and racism in our school districts from their unique perspectives. We’re eager to hear them explain the changes they’ve tried to implement, and how we can take action to move the needle with regard to systemic racism.

Samina Hussain is the Executive Assistant for Community Relations for Niles Township High Schools District 219 and has served on the Board of Education Member for Golf School District 67 since 2007. She also served on the Village of Morton Grove Community Relations Commission for 10 years and on the Election Committee for the Muslim Community Center for the past four years.

Jill Manrique is Vice President on the Board of Education for Niles Township High Schools District 219. She’s made her career in the nonprofit world, working for organizations like The Rotary Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois, and now Open Communities. Her mission-driven career has had her advocating and fundraising for international causes that are concerns for us all, like nature, education, and fair housing.

3) Call to action. We’ll present specific options you can get involved in to take action in our community.
